The brand mark consists of three elements: the sails, the wordmarque, and the descriptor. The relationship between these elements is fixed and should never be altered.

The three elements of the primary logo

The primary logo should be used wherever possible, as long as the “Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine” text remains legible. It should also be used in external applications, such as advertising and signage, where audiences may be encountering our brand for the first time.

Logo assets can be downloaded here. CMYK files are for printed materials and RGB files are for digital outputs. All three levels of the logo are available (full marque, wordmarque and sails) in a variety of formats to suit all uses.

We have a secondary logo which can be used in place of our primary logo when we don’t need to reinforce or introduce our full name, and it’s clear who we are. It can also be used in instances where the brand mark needs to be reproduced at a smaller size, where the descriptor text would be hard to read, such as on some items of merchandise, or small scale digital and print applications where we have already introduced our full name.

Secondary logo

The secondary logo should be used in full colour wherever possible. Mono versions are available and may be used in instances where a colour treatment is desirable, such as in the creation of merchandise.

Colour

Where possible we aim for a logo to be a single solid colour. When using our logo on a background, ensure high contrast and legibility.

On images

When using our logos over images or graphics they should appear in black or white. This ensures our logo is always legible and avoids unwanted colour clashes.

Minimum size

The logo has been carefully crafted to read well, even at small sizes. There is no limit at large scale, but be careful at smaller sizes. If legibility is an issue, it’s too small.

So our name remains legible, our full marque has a minimum height of 14mm or 40 pixels. Our wordmarque is more effective at a smaller size than our full marque.

Clear space

Our logo needs to have its own space to make it easy to read and keep it legible at all times. This “exclusion zone” is calculated using the dimensions from the sail within our full logo. The exclusion zone around the logo should be at least the width of the sail device. Don’t position anything else in the exclusion zone.

The primary logo inside a dashed exclusion zone. The space on every side, marked x, equals the width of the sail device, also marked x.

Positioning

For most applications we recommend positioning our logo in the top or bottom left corner.

The secondary positions shown below can be used if the logo is unable to go in the preferred position.
